Excursions: Out and About in the Area around Finca Son Ametler
Mallorca is quite small, so everything is see-able in a day trip away. However, there are a few places to visit we can really recommend which are only a short hop from the Finca. Although we think our small rural “agroturismo” Finca offers you all the things you could need to have a relaxing mallorcan break in a top quality Finca, should you choose to go out for the day there are some options nearby!
Some of our favourites near to the Finca Son Ametler are:
The Caves of Campanet – these are limestone caves with a guided tour around three or four large galleries. The tour is available in English, German and Spanish. There is also a nice restaurant for lunch or tea there, with a lovely view. If the weather has been very wet this can be combined with a visit to the nearby “Ses Fonts Ufanes”, a natural aquifer where the water comes up out of the ground into a river. You can also visit the Black Vulture Sanctuary in Campanet which is a 10 minute drive or an hour on foot, or take the back, scenic road past the caves to the beautiful town of Pollenca. Another option is to walk to Es Castell via the Finca “Monnaber Vell” on a path over the mountains. This takes roughly 5 hours.
The Monastery of Lluc – this is still a working seminary and school, and the Monastery´s choir, the “Blauets” are famous, so it is worth scheduling a trip when they are singing. There is a nice restaurant, “Es Guix”, on the way to the Monestary, which serves traditional Mallorcan food next to a natural rock pool. The route is about 30 minutes by car, but another option is to walk up the Pilgrimage route from Caimari, then get the bus back down (perhaps 3 hour walking time). There is also a nice Olive Press/Cafe/Shop (mostly a shop for Local produce) called Oli Caimari on the main road to Selva in the village of Caimari.
Puig Santa Margalida – just the other side of the motorway from Inca is this small peak, the location of another old Monastery. The restaurant there has a fabulous view across much of the island and offers nice local dishes such as Pa amb Oli, Roast Lamb and Suckling Pig. This is 20 minutes by car, or perhaps a nice destination for a half day bike trip.
Turn left out of the Finca and you can walk within 30 minutes to the small village of Moscari which has a couple of quite pleasant cafes in the main square – there is also a shop which sells stylish “espadrille” shoes made on the premises.
